Friends of the Prouty Garden recently learned that the hospital has plans in the works to remove the Dawn Redwood tree from the garden in the near future. We have reason to believe this destruction could commence as early as this Saturday, April 2nd, during the early morning.
As such, we are organizing a peaceful tree vigil this Saturday from 6 am to 10 am at the hospital, rain or shine. We urge all supporters who are able to please attend.
We will attempt to meet in the garden at the tree. If this is not possible, we can regroup in front of the hospital on Longwood Avenue. Friends of the Prouty Garden will be on site with buttons and materials to educate staff and patient families about the garden while we are on site.
We can share this piece of interesting news: we recently learned that the hospital's general contractor requested proposals from sub-contractors to remove the tree last February. Thankfully that effort has been thwarted, primarily due to the continuous pressure applied by the Friends of Prouty Garden on the hospital to reveal its intentions. Be encouraged, as we are, that our work is making a difference.
